Suchetra was called to the Singapore Bar in 2022. Suchetra’s practice spans across insurance work, commercial litigation, arbitration and constructions disputes.
Suchetra regularly assists the directors in high value commercial litigation and arbitration, often with an insurance element. To this end, Suchetra has been involved in both advisory matters, usually on matters regarding policy coverage, legal liability and quantum, as well as contentious disputes, including but not limited to, defending claims brought against real estate salespersons/agents.
Suchetra has acted in the following notable cases:
- Acted for a local SME in a million-dollar arbitration before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre under the expedited procedure. The matter, which was essentially a construction dispute involving a supply and install contract, required an acute understanding of novel electrical engineering concepts.
- Acting for a real estate agency, who was brought in as a Third Party by a Developer of a shopping mall in Singapore, in a claim commenced by various Plaintiffs, who are the buyers of certain commercial units in the said mall, against the Developer. The Plaintiffs’ claim is premised in misrepresentation.
- Acted for a local SME in a million-dollar arbitration before the Singapore International Arbitration Centre under the expedited The matter, which was essentially a construction dispute involving a supply and install contract, required an acute understanding of novel electrical engineering concepts.
- Assisted the team that acted for the plaintiff, the insured, in a 10- day trial before the Singapore International Commercial Court, in a matter involving an all-risks marine insurance contract under which claims were brought in lieu of the constructive total loss of the insured equipment. The total claim was approximately US$ 4,700,000.
- Assisting the team that acted for the intervener, who was the seller of the cargo for which financing was provided for, in 3 mis-delivery claims that were brought by trade financing banks before the Admiralty Division of the General Division of the High Court of Singapore.
- Assisted the team that successfully acted for 3 defendants against allegations of fraud and fraudulent misrepresentations for a total claim sum of approximately S$191,000,000 in an 18-day trial before the High Court of Singapore which was brought on behalf of 1,102 investors across Asia and involved 68 third parties against whom the defendants commenced a Third-Party Action. The trial saw the cross-examination of over 20 witnesses.
