The primary focus of Audrey’s practice is on the financial services and insurance and reinsurance sectors.

Audrey regularly acts as coverage counsel and defence counsel for insurers in various classes of insurance, including professional indemnity and malpractice, fidelity, all-risks insurance, property and liability. In the area of professional malpractice, Audrey primarily works with accountants, liquidators, lawyers, valuers, architects and engineers. In the area of property and all-risks insurance, she frequently handles complex technical engineering disputes and fire-related disputes. Audrey is also a trusted advisor on the management of fraudulent insurance claims, and has been involved in several successful investigations conducted by sections of the market into fraudulent claims made against insurers.

For non-contentious work, Audrey advises clients on issues relating to their insurance / reinsurance business, including drafting, advising, and reviewing contracts with business partners, reviewing policy wordings for new products, and privacy and data protection issues. Audrey also has a research interest in the interplay between information technology and the law, particularly in the areas of big data, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Some of the notable cases which Audrey was involved in include:

  • Advised insurers on coverage and recovery issues relating to a claim in excess of S$50 million arising out of a fire incident at a local education institution;
  • Successfully defended a firm of solicitors in a high profile multi-million High Court suit arising out of monetary gifts made by an elderly doctor while she lacked mental capacity and/or was under undue influence;
  • Acted for a work injury compensation insurer in action for judicial review of the Notice of Assessment issued by the Ministry of Manpower under the Work Injury Compensation Act in SGB Starkstrom Pte Ltd v Commissioner for Labour [2016] SGCA 27;
  • Advised and defended a multi-national manufacturer in an arbitration by an industrial waste handling company arising out of a fire for losses in excess of S$10 million;
  • Advised insurers on policy coverage issues under a portfolio of policies, including bailee’s liability, industrial special risks, and machinery policies, in relation to a gas leak at cold stores;
  • Advised insurers and reinsurers on policy coverage issues under Professional Indemnity policies in relation to claims brought against various companies for inter alia alleged conspiracy to injure another’s business; and
  • Represented an Asia-based reinsurance brokers in an arbitration arising out of disputes relating to brokerage and confidentiality issues.
